History

Personal Development Institute (PDI) opened its doors on the 7th of April 2010. The first Cohort that was present on this day was made up of 20 amazing students. We all gathered at a small room near the basketball pitch at CITAM Valley Road. Hiring the small room was already a breakthrough for us because we had looked for space to hire in many places in Nairobi unsuccessfully due to the minimal funds available.

The Institute was founded by Coach Irene Mureithi and her Co-founder Dr. Emma Karari. Coach Irene could only afford to raise $100 towards this vision and Dr Emma Karari, a leading Cardiologist in Kenya who is also very passionate about personal development education raised $1500 and this is how PDI was birthed. We shortly had other 3 investors who put in $1500 per person to support the operations of the Institute.

The late Dr. James Mageria was the first Chairperson of Personal Development Institute for 10 years. He poured out his life mentoring the PDI leaders and Board of Directors as well as the students. He accompanied the students during most of the graduations to various places in Kenya such as Amboseli Serena. This is a very precious memory as we had a surprise bush dinner to Celebrate his 70th birthday. He was accompanied by his lovely wife Beatrice Mageria who over the years has continued to be a key pillar on supporting PDI through prayers.

PDI IMPACT & INFLUENCE

PDI has partnered with corporate organizations, individuals and Churches to unlock human potential. The PDI impact is best described by the words "tangible transformative education". We celebrate the growth and success of all our Alumni. We have close to 7000 Alumni who have gone through various programs over the years.

We acknowledge Hope FM Radio owned by CITAM ministries because that was the first Radio station that gave us opportunities to advertise our classes at a fee. It was very tough raising the advertisement fees initially but we thank God for divine provision over the years.

The first 4 cohorts were hosted in a rented space within CITAM Valley Road and with time several other rented venues within Nairobi such as Karen, and Ngong Road. During Covid in 2020 when we were all forced to work from home, PDI closed down the rented offices and physical classroom spaces and made a 100% transition to virtual classes.

This shift was the very best thing that happened to the Institute because we are now serving clients in several counties in Kenya and other countries and continents through live facilitated classes which are recorded on our E- learning platform for students who cannot join the live classes.

We look forward to move from good to great in the years ahead.
